About The Provider
Dr. Paul Rees is an interventional cardiologist, critical care and prehospital medicine specialist whose career spans over two decades across leading academic, clinical, and military institutions. Trained in the United Kingdom, he completed advanced postgraduate programs in cardiology, internal medicine, intensive care, and prehospital emergency medicine, achieving qualifications equivalent to U.S. board certification in these specialties.
He joins the University of Minnesota from Barts Heart Centre in London—one of Europe’s busiest cardiac centers—where he led resuscitation services and interventional cardiology education. Internationally recognized for his pioneering work in helicopter-delivered cardiac resuscitation and endovascular emergency care, Dr. Rees is Chief Investigator for the world’s first study of airborne endovascular resuscitation (ERICA-ARREST).
Dr. Rees’ research focuses on advancing prehospital cardiac arrest care, circulatory support, and cardiogenic shock management. His leadership roles include serving as Consultant Advisor in Medicine to the Royal Navy and Co-Chair of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society’s Cardiac Arrest Group. At Minnesota, he will develop new academic and clinical programs in resuscitation medicine, bridging interventional cardiology, prehospital systems, and critical care to improve outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest.
