About The Provider
Valmiki Maharaj, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and cardiologist at the University of Minnesota, specializing in advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiac amyloidosis. He was drawn to cardiology by the combination of complex physiology, rapidly evolving treatments, and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and their families. His approach to care emphasizes helping patients understand their disease and treatment options while developing a plan that reflects their individual goals and priorities. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Maharaj serves as Program Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship and is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of cardiologists. His academic and research interests include advanced heart failure and improving the recognition and treatment of cardiac amyloidosis. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, traveling, exploring new places, and staying active.
